Moments after completing the Women’s 200-Meter individual medley race, the 21-year-old swimmer from Slovakia collapsed as she got out of the water, according to the Associated Press.
Per the publication, she was immediately surrounded by a group of medical attendants, given first aid and carried off on a stretcher.
In photos published by the AP, Potocka was seen wearing an oxygen mask as she was taken away, with medical personal confirming to the outlet that she was conscious following the medical emergency.
The incident itself unfolded during a live broadcast, leaving spectators, commentators and officials stunned, according to the Daily Mail.
“Fifteen thousand people are now watching an athlete surrounded by medical staff,” one commentator shared per the publication, “and I can assure you it's absolutely silent in here. They've got a stretcher out, they've got an oxygen mask on the athlete, and I'm going to say...this looks very serious.”
He added, “We hope that there's nothing more than that.”
Potocka finished seventh in her heat in a time of 2 minutes, 14.20 seconds, per the AP. Her placement does not quality her to advance her to the semifinals of the event.
Hours before participating in the individual medley race, Potocka shared a glimpse at her preparation time in Paris on social media, reposting a video of herself gearing up for the event by popping on her swimming cap and googles.
E! News has reached out to Potocka's reps for additional information on her condition but has not yet heard back.
